August meeting minutes

In attendance: Nichole Bortner, Patti Hunt*, Lisa Koontz, Linda Myers, Sara Owens*, Kelly Sanders**Denotes Board of Directors Patti opened the meeting in prayer.

Vision Statement - Patti Hunt

Patti presented the Vision Statement and suggested that we take a look at it every meeting as a guide in decision making for the group.

Treasury Report ~ The treasury report was presented by Patti Hunt. She reported that funds have come in over the summer from Giant A+Rewards program (Pennsylvania), Giant A+Bonus Bucks program (Maryland), and Kennies Partners in Learning and the total added to our treasury was $341.29. This money has been divided amongst the funds we have set up in accordance to need.

Back to School Social ~ Linda MyersFriendly’s in Gettysburg, September 7, 2011; 5-8pmLinda reported that this will be a social event for homeschoolers and at the same time serve as a fundraiser for our group. Anyone who comes into Friendly’s that evening will count toward our total. We have many door prizes for the evening and one will be drawn every 20 minutes. Linda chose this evening because you can get two kids meals for $1.99 each when you purchase one adult meal. Members could also come and just get ice cream. There is no requirement for our fundraiser to get a meal.
Other fundraisers ~
Patti HuntScrip fundraisers will start back up at the end of this month. Orders will be due to Patti Hunt on August 31.We need member families to register their Food Lion cards. If you have two Food Lion cards in your household, you may register both of them. We only have 3 cards registered and we need 25 to be eligible to get a check monthly. Sara Owens is coordinating the grocery store card fundraisers. Members should contact her to give her their loyalty card numbers.

Brochure for CHESS – Patti HuntPatti presented a brochure that she put together for CHESS. Attendees at the meeting made some recommendations on wording for clarification. Patti hopes to have the brochure ready to be passed out on September 7 for the Friendly’s social.

First class is October 7 Instituting a $10 registration fee that will cover facility costsLinda Myers suggested giving all families who sign up a scholarship from our scholarship fund for the $10 registration fee. Lisa Koontz agreed that it would be better to use the money in the scholarship fund rather than let it sit. All other attendees at the meeting were in agreement.
Field Trips ~ Linda Myers (field trip coordinator)
The August field trip to swim at Littlestown Pool was canceled due to lack of interest.
September – Field Day at S&G Stables in Littlestown
October – Planetarium
November – Show at the Majestic – Lincoln Douglas debate

Open Floor:Next meeting is a general planning meeting to be held on September 16 at noon at Littlestown Community Park. October meeting will be at Nichole Bortners house on October 10 at 7pm.We are looking for those who are willing to host a planning meeting at their home. For more details, see Patti.
